Interstitial Cystitis, also known as Painful Bladder Syndrome, is a cause of chronic pelvic pain in women and is thought to arise from severe inflammation of the bladder lining. This results in chronic symptoms of urinary frequency, urgency and burning, along with bladder pressure and pain and pain with sex (dyspareunia). Dyspareunia can be made worse by concurrent pelvic floor dysfunction in these patients.
